
KUALA LUMPUR: Come June 1, six of the country’s main highways will upgrade 18 of their toll plazas to fully implement the electronic toll collection (ETC) system.
The six highways are Besraya Highway, Lebuhraya Lingkaran Luar Butterworth (LLB), Kajang Traffic Dispersal Ring Road (SILK), South Klang Valley Expressway (SKVE), Sultan Abdul Mu’adzam Shah Bridge (JSAHMS) and Grand Sepadu.
Announcing this today, Malaysia Highway Concessionaires Association vice president Sazally Saidi said the move is part of the government’s effort to encourage ETS usage, which has proven to be more effective and easier for road users.
“Come this June, all the 2,282 toll lanes at the upgraded toll plazas will be implemented with ETC
“This will involve 1,176 Touch N Go lanes, 610 mixed mode lanes of Touch N Go and cash, as well as 496 SmartTag lanes,” he said.
He said, in conjunction with the implementation of the ETC, 108,500 Touch N Go cards will be distributed for free with a minimum payment of RM5 and 8,000 units of SmartTag devices will be sold at the promotional price of RM99.
Sazally was speaking at a press conference the Loke Yew toll plaza at Besraya here, today.
The 18 toll plazas involved in this initiative are; LLB’s Bagan Ajam, Perai and Sg. Nyior toll; Besraya’s Mines and Loke Yew toll; SILK’s Sungai Ramal, Bukit Kajang, Sungai Long and Sungai Balak toll; SKVE’s Ayer Hitam, Saujana Putra, Teluk Panglima Garang and Pulau Indah toll; JSAHMS toll; and Grand Sepadu’s Bukit Raja, Kapar, Kapar Moc A and Kapar Moc B toll.-nst
