KUALA LUMPUR: The Foreign Affairs Ministry is working towards the early release of Dr Fauziah Mohd Hasan, a Malaysian who was onboard a ship carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza.
It was reported that the boat Zaytouna-Oliva was seized by Israeli forces in Gaza waters last night and was brought to the port of Ashdod.
The ministry in a statement said they are currently monitoring developments surrounding the detention of the boat, which consists of an all-female crew of 13.
“Currently, the ministry is in communication and contact with several parties to ensure the safety and well-being of the Malaysian involved in the incident,” it said today.
Dr Fauziah is a board member of NGO Humanitarian Care Malaysia (MyCARE).
She was serving as the physician for the mission, which is called Women’s Boat to Gaza (WBG).
It is understood that the ship was seized by Israeli forces at around 9pm (Malaysian time).-nst
