TUARAN: More than 500 adventure-activity lovers took part in the Kiulu Adventure Challenge here this morning. The inaugural event was held to promote rural tourism in Kiulu, which falls under the Tuaran constituency.

A 13-kilometre run, a 37-kilometre bike ride and a 14-kilometre raft ride were among the highlight activities of the event. Kiulu assemblyman Datuk Joniston Bangkuai flagged off runners from Chanteek Borneo Gallery at 6.30am.

Participants ran across four suspension bridges with a backdrop of the majestic Mount Kinabalu before running along the stream towards the finishing line at Kampung Rangalau.

Cycling participants started their journey from Kampung Rangalau, made a 10-minute stop at the first pit stop in Kampung Poturidong to feed fish and continued on to Kampung Tulung and Kampung Pukak before heading their way back to the finishing line at Kampung Rangalau.

Rafting began at Kampung Pukak where participants were thrilled with Kiulu’s Grade II-level white water ride. The event was jointly organised by the Kiulu Tourism Association (KTA), Sri Pelancongan Sabah and local community leaders.

Joniston also invited local and international crowd to witness the event and take the opportunity to experience the outdoor activities in Kiulu.

“Kiulu offers activities such as Tagal fish feeding, fishing, rafting, ziplining, cycling, trailing and camping or visitors can merely enjoy a picnic with family and friends next to the scenic river of Kiulu,” he added.
