KOTA TINGGI: Marine police arrested 30 illegal immigrants, comprising 21 men and nine women, in a operation carried out at Pulau Hijau here at 2am today.
Marine Police Region 2 commander Assistant Commissioner Paul Khiu said the illegal immigrants had gathered at a forested area at the beach in Pulau Hijau.
In a statement today, Khiu said the suspects had admitted to have been waiting for a boat which was supposed to bring them back to Indonesia.
The suspects have been brought back to the Bandar Penawar police station for further action.
They are being investigated under Section 26A of the Anti Trafficking in Persons and Anti Smuggling of Migrants Act (ATIPSOM) 2007, Section 5(2) and Section 6(1) (c) of the Immigration Acts 1959/1963 (Amended 2002).-NST
